Is the museum open only at night during telescope observations?
No. The museum is open during the daytime as well and offers a wide variety of activities, which you can explore in the section “Visit us.”
Are Molėtai Astronomical Observatory and the Lithuanian Museum of Ethnocosmology the same institution?
No. Although they are located close to each other, the museum offers a broader range of services, including interactive guided tours, educational programmes, and night observations in telescope towers that are often seen in public media.
Is it true that the best time to visit the museum is in summer?
The museum surroundings are special in every season, and guided tours are just as engaging throughout the year as they are in summer.
Are guided tours available only in Lithuanian?
Guided tours may be arranged in English and Russian upon prior agreement; however, availability of English-language tours cannot be guaranteed.
How long will our visit take?
Daytime exhibition tour: 1–1.5 hours
Night telescope tour: 1–1.5 hours
Educational programme: up to 1 hour
Short visit to the observation deck: up to 30 minutes
We arrived, and the museum was already closed. What can we do?
Please check the museum’s opening hours online before your visit. If the museum is closed, you may freely explore the outdoor exhibition, enjoy the museum garden, or climb the nearby Kulionys hillfort.
Is booking required for tours?
We always recommend booking daytime tours in advance (by phone or via the museum website), as museum spaces are limited and during peak times, you may not be able to join a tour at your preferred time. Advance booking is required for night telescope tours and educational programmes.
